WARRANTY ADDENDUM
Open Joints
Seasonable changes in temperature and humidity naturally cause wood to expand and contract. This could cause joint separation. Westport Custom Cabinets warrants against excessive joint separation after the cabinetry has been stored or installed for one year allowing for a seasonal temperature and humidity cycle. The cabinetry must be stored or installed in a climate-controlled environment with a constant humidity level of 45% to 60%. Frame joints and door joints of 1/32 or less are not considered as excessive joint separation, but normal expansion and contraction to seasonal changes. This is most noticeable on cabinetry finished in a ‘painted’ color.
Doors and Panels
All doors and drawer fronts made by Westport Custom Cabinets are made with solid wood, unless ordered otherwise. These doors typically perform well in a variety of conditions if properly stored, handled, and installed. All wood products are designed and intended for controlled interior applications only. Any solid wood product will respond adversely to extreme conditions–especially extremely low or high humidity conditions. Gaps that may develop in door joints due to these conditions are not subject to replacement under this warranty.
Westport Custom Cabinets makes all attempt to use proper, tried and true woodworking techniques that accommodate for wood movement and thus reduce the risk of warping or bowing of the wood. Examples of proper vs. risky technique are commonly shown in cabinet doors. A panelized door or drawer front is not just for looks- it's free floating panel surrounded by a frame greatly reduces the risk of a warped or bowed door. A slab style door or 1 piece door which is a single thickness door made of solid, glued together boards across its width, commonly seen in contemporary design, is much more prone to bowing or warping across its grain that a panelized door. This is only one common example. On occasion a clients design and taste do not allow for the best technique, putting design before function and thus there is more risk for wood movement issues. Westport Custom Cabinets will do the best job possible to reduce the risk of wood movement issues in any product made but cannot be held responsible for issues that are due to putting design before function, however, when possible, all attempts will be made to make the client aware of any concerns. Westport Custom Cabinets reserves the right to charge for repair or replacement of components made that are due to client demands that go around use of sound woodworking technique.
Single panel doors less than 48” in height and 24” in width carry a guarantee against warpage of no more than ¼”. Single panel doors warped more than ¼”. Multi-panel doors less than 64” in height and 24” in width carry a guarantee against warp age of no more than ¼”. Multi-panel doors warped more than ¼” will be replaced at no charge (material only). This information applies to all door styles, bar backs or appliance panels. One annual cycle must be allowed before warranty replacement is to be considered. In most situations the door will return to its normal flat position after going through a complete heating cycle. In a panelized door the panel and the frame or styles and rails of the door are separate pieces to allow for movement in the wood. It is normal and more noticeable in white painted doors to have a visible line or ‘black cracks/lines’ where the panel goes into the slot of the styles and rails. Our doors are handmade and hand sprayed and may have areas where the finish bridges this gap and areas where it does not-this is normal. Westport Custom Cabinets is not responsible for filling this void as it will inhibit proper movement of the panel. As the panel goes through its first season in your home it is normal to experience some shrinkage which Westport Custom Cabinets will touch up, free of charge, after the panels are allowed to shrink to their fullest extent for the season.
Unfinished Cabinetry
No guarantee is included on Westport Custom Cabinets that are manufactured unfinished, either on the doors against warpage or the finish applied by others. Westport Custom Cabinets will cover problems in unfinished cabinetry at our discretion.
Color Match – Wood and Finish Characteristics
Natural woods may vary in texture, color, wood grain, and exhibit subtle changes as they age. For example, wood joints may eventually have visible cracking around the joint area and the cabinet colors may darken or lighten over time. Exposure to sunlight, smoke, moisture, household cleaners and other environmental conditions may cause materials to vary from their original color and/or to warp, split or crack. These variations are the nature of the material in relation to its environmental exposure. This also makes it very difficult to match the original color. All efforts will be made for a reasonable color match, but an exact match is neither implied nor guaranteed. Before selecting any finish, always view a solid wood sample with finish applied to see the variations of color due to woods natural variations in color.
Hardware
Westport Custom Cabinets will replace defective hardware with the original style if it is available. If it is not, Westport Custom Cabinets will work to match the original style selected as closely as possible. This will only apply if we, Westport Custom Cabinets were the provider of the hardware.
